Rumor has it that a lapdog is a canine bred for it’s extremes in small size and at one time could only be owned by those of the Chinese Royal Palace. Guess what, this is not a rumor. One might think it is, by the way our celebrities “tote” their tiny balls of fur every place they go. But no, today you do not have to be royalty to own a lapdog.
At one time these little dogs were bred as tiny imitations to a larger looking breed. For instance, the Toy Poople and the Standard Poodle, similar looking dogs, but much different in size. Actually if you look at them up close they really don’t look all that much alike at all. With the same style hair, we do make a good point at making them look as if they are tiny imitations of the same dog, but come on people, the same breed, give me a break! In this day and age these minature dogs have become pets of the rich (or those imitating the rich) and seem to have become status symbols. They are not only our pets, but their fashion accessories too. There are clothes, jewelry, pocketbooks to carry them in, and more, all at astronomical cost to the owners. These pet boutiques have also made a pretty penny for those that had the foresight to see this coming.
Oh well, if this is the type of pet you fancy, all is well. I can’t afford it. These little dogs really do need these boutiques, because they really do need these clothes (especially in the winter). They need sweaters, hats, and a couple of coats because they are so cold natured, shiver constantly so they cannot maintain their body temperature and will freeze to death if the temperature dips below 50 degrees! Enjoy FooFoo, I will have to stay with Fido.

Don’t forget that all lap dogs are not for show only, but for comfort of the owner. I consider mine lap dogs because they always want to sit in my lap, and they bring a lot of comfort. They lie beside me in bed and I keep a hand on them which is very comforting, to feel another live being next to me. Plus I just like how soft they are.
